  32. So Long Mike,
I will always remember your kind easy going nature. Nothing was ever a fuss and just hanging out spending time with you was golden. I will never forgot the time we left the girls and headed up to the RSA together to catch up with some of your mates, have a few beers and sing the odd kareoke. We will always share “dirty old town” as a favourite song to sing into the mic.

The way you treated the grandchildren was amazing. Sitting through sporting events and facetiming the kids for thier birthday in the crazy costumes will always be etched in my memory.

You where taken to soon from us, god is certainly filling his ranks with good the ones

  33. I want to take a moment to speak about Mike — words will never quite capture what he truly was to me. He was a quiet influence in my life. Not loud, not demanding, never needing the spotlight — but always there. Steady. Constant. Patient beyond words.

From when I was a kid, he treated me like his own daughter. We were best mates in our own way. There was something special in that bond — easy, unforced, built on trust and kindness. He had this incredible patience. Nothing was ever a bother. He never made you feel like you were asking too much. He never really asked for anything himself.

He was deeply loyal, and the way he loved my mum — he truly put her on a pedestal. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. Respectful, devoted, steady.

He had the greatest smile — warm and genuine — and a quiet sense of humour that would sneak up on you. He loved a laugh. It was never about grand gestures. It was the small comments, the knowing look, the subtle joke. He was content. Honest. A truly good man.

There will be a real gap in our family now. A space that can’t quite be filled. His presence will be greatly missed.

I’m so grateful that I got to grow up with him. Grateful for his patience, his loyalty, his kindness and for taking me under his wing. I hope him and Chris are hunting and fishing up there in the big clouds. You can now rest your feet and hang your sign out Mike………..……Gone Fishing!

Love Melanie (forever in my heart)

  34. Haere atu ra, sweet Mike. Part of our family for 40+ years, the absence of your calm and loving presence is already deeply felt. Your version of King of the Road will always be the best. Xxx aroha always for you.

  35. Mike I’m so sad to know you’ve left us, but like so many others, I’ll never forget your kindness, your gentle way, your quick smile and generous heart. Thank you for finding our aunty Pauline and for loving our family. We were all so lucky to have you in our lives. Go well, we miss you x

  36. Aunty Marie was the sweetest lady with the most gentle soul and I was truly blessed to have seen her in Sept on my first visit to Motueka in 30 years, and moreso when she still remembered me. She entrusted me with one of her favourite recipes that I want to share here:

    Aunty Marie’s Ginger Crunch
    125 grams butter
1 packet Super Wine biscuits, crushed
    1 teaspoon ground ginger
    ¼ tin condensed milk
    100 grams chopped brazil nuts
    75 grams chopped crystalised ginger
    ½ cup brown sugar

Combine butter, brown sugar and condensed milk and melt on low heat (1 minute in the microwave) stir to combine. Mix the rest of the ingredients together and then add the above, mixing until everything is together. Line a baking dish with baking paper and press mix into the dish. Refrigerate.
    Icing:
Butter – approx 2 tablespoons, melted with 2 tablespoons condensed milk and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. Stir to combine, Add 5 heaped tablespoons of icing sugar and then drip in water slowly to make up icing consistency before adding to the slice. Cut when firm and enjoy.
    Store in the fridge.

Rest easy Aunty. Love you heaps ~B~

  37. Mike.
We will not for get your huge smile, the singalongs at your place, picnics at kina. The great cheese balls and pizza you made whenever we had dinner together.Your infectious laugh and above all your warm hugs, it was a privilege to have had you in our family.
    Forever in our hearts.
    Linda and Scruff❤️

  38. Uncle Mike was one of the most genuinely kind and caring men I’ve ever met. Such a gentle soul, a huge heart, able to quietly laugh things off. His advice, and his example, will always stay with me: to be kind and caring with others – no matter what is happening; to stay calm, be patient, to care for others, and to consider what they are going thru.
Uncle Mike: you are a true gentleman.
    You will be missed.

  39. Aunty Marie was such a kind person, we always had a bed to stay when we visited Motueka. It was nice to see her in the New Year.
    Will miss you very much.
    Lots of love Leanne

  40. Some memories of Auntie Marie. Auntie Marie was such a kind and loving lady. I loved going to see her and having school holidays with her. I was so spoilt as she gave me her love, her time, she listened to me and had endless patience. We had lots of fun. We went swimming, she tried to teach me to play golf but most of all she helped me to become a young lady myself. I love her and will miss her. Thank you Auntie Marie.

  58. Though miles and oceans separated us, love knows no distance.
Khalo was a source of kindness, strength and comfort to his sisters and nephews.
Even though he lived abroad, he always found a way to come and visit home, reminding us that family is never defined by geography, but by the bonds of the heart.
I hold onto the love he gave so freely.
    His presence will be missed.
Rest peacefully Khalo. You may be far from our sight, but you will forever remain close in our hearts.

Our hearts are with Laurel ,Heidi , Nadia , Jodie and their beautiful

  64. Been going through old letters … so many words. Genuine, heartfelt, caring, kind… Thank you for all of them. Eventually, they would become so few. The last one I heard you say, was my name. That made me cry. Your life was certainly not an easy one, yet your heart remained soft and caring. I will think of you every time I sit outside at Toad hall, see a sailboat or order a chicken Korma.
    See you soon x

  65. Pop, your memorial service was beautiful. I’m sad that your last few years on Earth we’re challenging, but happy that you are free and peaceful now. Till we meet again Dad,

We hold dear so many memories of our time as friends and neighbours — of laughter, shared stories, and the easy warmth of good company.

We especially remember the joy of a lovely Christmas Day that we shared together, trips into the Cobb Dam, and the gentle mischief of Mac the Westie.
